Initial Consultation & Briefing

Catriona Rowbotham will meet with clients at the site of the proposed garden to discuss client ideas and how the process works.

A fee proposal will then be provided for the Preliminary Design Phase, which will also briefly confirm in writing CRGD's understanding of the brief. The fee for each phase can be agreed at the end of the last . In this way clients can choose to employ CRGD for partial services only, stopping at the end of an agreed phase. Fees subsequent to the Preliminary Design Phase will reflect the scope of each phase required as it becomes clearer. Please click the link below to see in more detail how the design phases work:

Preliminary Design Phase

  • Survey & Site Analysis

  • Sketch Design

  • Moodboards to discuss materials, planting & precedents

  • Masterplan

Detailed Design Phase

  • Quantities & specifications added

  • Planting Plans and schedules drawn up

  • Moodboards to discuss and confirm plant selections

  • CAD layout showing setting out for construction

  • Relevant construction details

  • Design sent to tendering contractors

Larger projects will require a formal contract to be put in place. With experience from architectural projects, CRGD can act as contract administrator. Catriona Rowbotham is a Pre Registered Member of the Society of Garden Designers and is as professional in her garden design as in her architecture.

On smaller projects a more informal approach is more appropriate with site visits paid on an hourly rate, usually at the start of the job and then once a fortnight to check progress and completion.

CRGD subscribes to Shoot Gardening. Please click link below to find out the benefits of this subscription to CRGD clients:

Shoot Gardening

Clients retaining CRGD until the end of construction will receive a bespoke maintenance plan from Shoot for one year after completion to help them or others keep the garden looking beautiful.
